Hello Lovelies! This anecdote starts as many of my stories do, with me drinking coffee. Big surprise there right? But the one surprising thing is this time it actually wasn't a Starbucks, so hey give me some points for being not totally predictable. And if you don't believe my coffee addiction, see the above photo which is some (not all!) of the photos of coffee I have ever posted on Instagram. Call the blogger cliche police please, before it's too late... So anyway, back to the story. I was sitting in the Eat inside Topshop Oxford Street (one of my fave coffee hideouts) after my plan to study had epically backfired and I'd just ended up looking at clothes. Top student right here...
Anyway, I was sitting there casually drinking a Matcha Latte and trying to eat a Tuna Mayonnaise baguette elegantly (an impossible feat) when a really hot guy decided to sit down on a table exactly opposite mine. For a normal person, this wouldn't have been a big deal at all but hey this is me we're talking about so obviously I internally freaked out. Keep in mind at this point I was eating really unattractively, had super frizzy hair because RAIN and not a single bit of makeup on my face. Plus my acne was on fleek that day, which made the situation about 10x better. Oh puberty, can you go away already? Thanks. I'm nearly 20, I don't need you anymore. And to make things better I didn't even have my contacts in...
JUST MY LUCK.
Anyway, super hot stranger guy decides to start staring at me, you know as you do. At first I'm pretty sure he's not looking at me because hey *see reasons above. But after a while he just keeps staring and shyly looking away. And by this point I start getting self conscious because he keeps looking at me, like full on stare attacks.Being me and so not good at these kind of situations, I just get shy and flustered and then hide behind my Korean text book, because you know, might as well try and look sophisticated in front of this stranger who keeps looking at me. But hey, why does he keep looking at me anyway? *Switches to my Japanese textbook, to look even more sophisticated and peeks over book.*
NOPE STILL STARING
And then this is when things started getting really confusing/kind of annoying. Hot stranger guy gets up searches around in his bag, then leaves. But no he doesn't actually leave because that would make life WAY too simple. Instead he comes back to the table, sits down really awkwardly and looks at me again and you guessed it leaves again. But no don't worry, this isn't the end of hot stranger guy's erratic behaviour. Next he comes back again and goes and buys a fruit salad because normal behaviour. Then after he's sat down with his fruit salad, he sits there awkwardly, pokes at his fruit salad, looks through his bag, glances at me, looks at his phone then eats his fruit salad, gets up and leaves. And so by this point I'm emotionally involved in this erratic stranger, and him constantly leaving then coming back is just plain distracting. But of course hot guy comes back one last time, sits down and looks at me. Being the clever person I am, I take my glasses off, to try and look vaguely more attractive but really what this does is make me effectively blind. And this is when hot stranger guy walks up to my table, well blurry hot stranger guy.
He smiles adorably, looks at me, and then grabs the sandwich packet off my table and says 'I'll throw this away for you.' Then I smile, and awkwardly mutter 'Thank you' and he goes to throw it away. And then he actually leaves, and just my luck, never comes back. So we are left with two conclusions. Either this guy was an absolute clean freak and was eyeing up that abandoned sandwich packet the whole time - or he was actually looking at me, and for some strange reason liked what he saw. I guess we'll never know. But want to know a secret? I wish I had stopped him. But instead I let clean freak hot stranger guy get away, and wasted a good half an hour of my life... (Yay to being a responsible adult).
The significance of this non-story? It was a moment, maybe it was all in my head but it was exciting and hopeful. Life is unpredictable like that, it just likes hitting you with curve balls. The reality is when you step out of your door tomorrow, you have no idea what's going to hit you. You could meet the love of your life, a new friend or just have a nice little moment with someone. But that's the beauty of life, it's just so damn unpredictable and it's got thousands of moments ready waiting for you on the grand old conveyor belt of things. It might be when you're drinking coffee, or walking to work or just posting a letter - who knows? But there's moments waiting for you, all you have to do my friend is make the most of them.
Thought of the day: 'Destiny is for losers. It's just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen.' - Blair Waldorf
Man crush: Jim from The Office. If he could hurry up and stop being fictional, that would be nice. Literally my dream guy, don't even get me started on the way he looks at Pam.. *sigh*
Perk of being single: The possibility of meeting someone one day, you know because I'm actually hopeful my destiny isn't to become a crazy cat lady.

Aww haha thank you Chloe, means a lot coming from you! x
DeleteIf this moment had been in a film, after realising he wasn't coming back for the thousandth time, you would have dropped your book, pushed your chair back really rapidly and ran out the coffee shop, standing there in the middle of the road, you'd look left, you'd look right, and bump right on into him - he'd decided he had to go back and get your number. Cue cute smiles, number swapping, you skipping back inside, a last glance over your shoulder and a smouldering smile from him.
ReplyDeleteYes. I totally fan fictioned your post haha! I think you need to go back to that coffee shop and see if he's asking for the girl in the glasses who eats tuna melts!
