Little Blogging Tips Series: Standing Out From The Crowd

Hey lovelies! If you were reading my blog last week, you may have noticed that I started a weekly blogging series called 'Little Blogging Tips.' This week I'll be talking about how to stand out from the crowd in the blogging world. As you probably realise, there are so many blogs out there, and it can sometimes feel like you're lost in a sea of them, so I thought I'd share some tips with you on how to stand out.

HAVE A VOICE

One of the things that makes bloggers so appealing as opposed to magazines, is the personal touch of a blog. It's best to be yourself, and speak with your own voice. It's easy to feel self conscious about your own voice especially when you start off blogging, but honestly you shouldn't! I look back to the posts I wrote early on in my blog, and they sound so rigid and controlled. Don't feel like you have to write in a certain way or like anyone else, just be yourself! The bloggers I really love are the ones I feel like I know, so don't be afraid to put yourself out there a bit.

BE SOCIAL

One of the best ways to get your blog out there is to be social, I can never say this enough. Visit blogs, read articles, and comment on them but don't spam! No one likes a spammer, and no one likes being asked if you'll follow them. I'm much more likely to visit your blog when you've commented if it genuinely sounds like you've read my post, and aren't just commenting with the hope I'll follow you.

It's also great to use social media, especially Twitter to help get your posts out there. You don't have to be on every social media site but try out different types and see what's best for you. It's better to have a couple active social media accounts, than ones you hardly ever use.

TREAT YOUR BLOG LIKE A BRAND

Blogging is a very visual world. A lot of people will judge your blog and whether they want to read it by the way it looks. You want your blog to give off a vibe of who you are and what your blog is about, by just looking at it. If you're blog is quite quirky show that in your header or design, similarly if you want your blog to have a chic feel, go for a sleek minimalistic design. If you feel lost in blog design, just try asking someone for their help or advice, I'm always happy to help, so feel free to ask!

Also you want to try to use the best pictures possible, not everyone has a snazzy camera or even a camera at all, but editing your photos online and re-sizing them can go a long way to making your blog look just that little bit better. Try and avoid small little pictures as they can be easily lost on a big web page, instead of drawing your reader in.

DO GUEST POSTS/TAGS

A really great way to get involved in the blogging community is doing guest posts or doing tags! If you see a tag you really love, do it and tag bloggers so they do it too. If you see an opportunity to do a guest post on a blog, have a go at it. Getting involved in the blogging community is never a bad thing, and will help give your blog a little exposure too.

CREATE UNIQUE/USEFUL CONTENT

The most important thing as a blogger (of course) is creating great content! Having good content is what will bring readers back to your blog time and time again. Be as creative as you can, and think of fun ideas for blog posts that stand out from the crowd. Another thing to think about is how useful your content is to your readers. If you do great in depth honest reviews, chances are readers will keep coming back because they trust and value your opinion. How much effort you put into a post really does show, so it's important to not publish content that your heart isn't in or you don't really love.

KNOW YOUR STRENGTHS

As bloggers, I think most of us are guilty at seeing our blog's shortcomings rather than what we actually do well. It's easy to focus on the fact that your photography might not be the best, or you're not the funniest blogger out there, but honestly it's much more productive to focus on what you do well!

If your strength isn't photography, focus on writing up amazing posts. If you're not sure what your strengths are have a look at the stats of your posts and see which are most popular. This will give you a real idea of what people have really liked from your blog, and hopefully a little motivational boost.

TRY OUT A SCHEDULE

Schedules aren't for everyone, but a lot of people find them helpful as they keep them organised and it means your readers know which days to expect new content. However if you choose to follow a schedule, choose a realistic one! There's no point in picking a schedule when you know you might not be able to keep it up as when you don't, it's only going to stress you out. Try something simple like Beauty posts on Wednesdays and Fashion posts on Saturdays.

Let me know in the comment section below if you found this post useful lovelies! Have an amazing day everyone.

  2. These are some good points, and I agree with the 'knowing your strengths' part. I always get so conscious about how my photos aren't perfect and I don't have the eye for photography, but I've always been a writer and I think I need to focus more on that!

  5. These are some great tips which I am sure will come of great help to the people who read this posts. I agree with a lot of it.

I haven't really developed a schedule yet as I have only just gotten really into blogging at the moment. I also don't start college until Monday so I don't really need to start a schedule until I get back into the swing of things and see what is happening. :)

I definitely agree with the whole unique content thing. I seem to enjoy the blogs which have a variety of different posts more than those with the same OOTD posts everyday. Not that I don't enjoy them, but variety and something different is always good. That's exactly what I wanted with my blog. I also noticed that my posts that are not the same beauty posts got good feedback!

Also someone definitely has to be social. I have been talking about my blog more on twitter etc and since then my views have tripled. :)

I was thinking of doing a post like this, but it was going to be focusing more on the blogs I like and why I like them. :)

  7. I agree with all your tips here, Vicky and I couldn't say it better. I am guilty of focusing on only my weakness instead of strength so it's a nice 'wake-up' call for me. Guest post is one thing that is suggested by many but I have no idea how it works. I saw a few blogs offering space for guest post too, I am curious but the lack of confidence made me restrain myself from joining. :-/

  8. Thanks for these tips, and yep very useful :) When I first started blogging I was all over the place and it was kind of stressful writing posts last minute. I do have a schedule now and it really helps to have them ready before hand and knowing what to write about in advance is so much better. I find having a list of possible blog posts is also helpful.

I definitely worry about my photos and I sometimes think they aren't good enough, I have deleted posts in the past because I wasn't happy with the photo. I guess practice will make them better, hopefully.

I so agree with the having one social media rather than having all and not using them.

By the way, you have a great blog :)

  10. Great tips for growing your blog. Personally, I'm at that stage at the moment where I've recently felt that I've let my blog consume my life a little bit too much, so I've consciously decided to blog a little less in favour of quality and a better life balance :) But these really are fab tips for blog growth...just wish I had more time in the day :)...thanks for sharing! 15. Really useful tips, I especially like the one about having a voice! I haven't been blogging for that long and as you said, to begin with you can feel quite rigid, so it's something I'm working on!
