Hello Lovelies! When everything is bad in the world, there is one person I'm guaranteed to turn to: Jane Austen. I can remember vividly the first time I watched the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Half of me was like OH MY GOD COLIN FIRTH IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HUMAN EVER, and the other half was just completely and utterly lost in the world of Austen. Maybe it's silly but every time I open an Austen book, or watch an adaptation, every thing in the world just feels good again.
And you know what I have never really even been able to pinpoint just what it is about her books that I love so much. There's the romance (obviously), the humour and the strong female characters. There is just something about her books. She also has this uncanny ability to write male characters you fall in love with. I mean hello Mr Darcy, Mr Knightley and Captain Wentworth. But maybe what I love about her books is that they aren't all sunshine and rainbows. They are for the most part crowd pleasing books, but they also have heartbreaking moments, touching relationships (Emma and her father's always gets me) and are just generally relatable which is pretty impressive for 19th century novels.
The truth is I'm just Austen obsessed. I've even seen pretty much every Austen adaptation and I mean EVERY adaptation. Whether it's Bride and Prejudice (with a song titled No Life without Wife), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (more zombies than Austen) or Lost in Austen (scarily relatable), or even The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (best web series ever), you can bet I've seen it. So when I Just Love It got in touch asking me if I wanted to try out one of their personalised gifts I jumped at the chance of getting my own personalised copy of Pride and Prejudice, fangirl alert. Their Personalised Pride and Prejudice Book (£9.99 or £17.99 for hardback)* allows you to change the name of five of the characters and add a personalised message at the beginning. But I decided to change just one name. So say hello to Victoria Bennet. Sorry not sorry.
But obsession with Austen's books aside, Austen is really one of my idols. She never married, and spent her life writing books all about love, romance and marriage. And you know what she's proof that you don't need a man or woman. She alone made her own stamp on the world, and her books are effortlessly timeless. So as much as I joke that Austen has ruined life for me by raising my expectations of men, her books have brought so much joy into my life.
Thanks for reading lovelies! Have you ever read an Austen book?
*This book was sent to me for honest review, but as always all Austen obsession is my own. Can I just find my Mr Darcy please?
