Lifestyle | Hello 2018! My Blogging Resolutions

Hello Lovelies!

It's been a while hasn't it? Honestly the control freak in me is spooked by the fact that my first post this year was posted today and not even on the first of January!  Who is this new Vicky and WHAT have you done with the old one?

Well my resolution for this year is to take it easy, or at least try to. I have always been one of those people who doesn't know how to relax. Like for real even when I'm Netflix bingeing, I'd be on my laptop blogging or trying to do something productive. This girl does not know how to chill. So this holiday during Christmas was the first time I properly let go and just did nothing, and you know what it was amazing because I found myself itching to get back to my keyboard and start taking some photos.

Another big part of this whole change of mindset was the Instagram algorithm. I know *eye rolls* a blogger complaining about Instagram again but hear me out. At the beginning of 2017 my account was growing by a rate I never expected, gaining about 100 new followers a month and it was crazy. I was pretty hooked on the growth and making my account better and better. I got a buzz from it all but then it started to become a case of fretting about the next Instagram post and making sure I got a new post every single day. Then the Instagram algorithm got even worse for me and suddenly one month I wasn't growing anymore - my account completely stagnated. If anything I was losing followers.

This however, as much as it sucked became a bit of a blessing in disguise. Now it didn't really matter whether I posted daily or not because it literally made no difference. I'd be making the effort to post every day but it changed nothing. So I guess I saw it as an opportunity to just chill out with my Instagram and start to focus more on creating photos I really love rather than just to fill up my feed. And you know what it has made me appreciate something about Instagram that I had lost a bit - the simple joy of taking photos I love and being very excited to share them. I've had a chance to recalibrate my priorities and it has put a lot in perspective. Of course I still don't like the algorithm changes at all, but it has helped me to change my mindset about what I want to create now.

Blogging on the other hand is something I'm not sure quite what I want to do with. All I know is that I'm not going anywhere and I do want to blog weekly. I have always loved the frequency of weekly posts, because I love connecting with people. One of my resolutions I guess with blogging is to push my content and write more about things I really love that might not be what you expect. Who knows? Frankly I'm pretty excited. It feels good to be back in love with blogging yet, I can feel the butterflies again - and you know what that's pretty great.

So from now on it's all about growing, as a person, not the numbers.

Love Vicky x

  1. I look forward to your content for 2018, Vicky and like you, I am taking it slow too. Instagram is messed up and I am losing followers too and haven't been growing much. Honestly I am close to giving up on it.

  3. I'm just like you Vicky! I can never chill. I'm literally always doing something, and as much as I like that, it can be pretty exhausting too - especially when it comes to blogging! It really doesn't matter whether we post every single day or not, same as Instagram. The most important thing is indeed to grow as a person, do what you like and only because you want to, not because you feel like you have to!

  4. Looking forward to reading your content in 2018 Vicky! Always important to remember the real reason for doing what you do online, whether that is for Instagram or blogging, and try to stay true to it.
